C'mon in and see what's going on since the walls have been painted white.
There were white slipcovers on the Ikea loveseats, but when I discovered these on sale for 20 dollars, Carol and I flew to Ikea and literally ran through the store to get the last two before they were gone forever! I called every other day for two weeks and it was worth it. They're soft and comfy with white roses on a tan background and subtle enough to go with everything. Love these for winter and I'll switch back to white for summer.
As much as I ADORE the Scandinavian all white homes such as Annette's, my place beckons for a blast of color in winter and this vintage pillow was happy to oblige. There is a magenta orchid on the t.v. which doesn't show in this pic. Window candles are welcoming and charming all winter long.
The tree is still in place, sans Christmas decor, and I'm loving that too! The tall vintage window with frosted and etched panes was a happy find for 10 dollars at a church thrift shop. A little scrubbing and it provides perfect height in the corner.
This is the living room before the walls were painted, new curtains and slipcovers added. Sand dune. See the pinkish tone? Oh, and I've replaced the mirror with Ruth Orkin's 'American Girl in Italy' which doesn't show up in the bottom pic because of the glare.
Favorite mercury lamp with etching was the third try before I found the best one for this corner. The painted round wicker table has a pretty sheer netted cover which graces the floor for a touch of softness, while still allowing the texture and beauty of the table to show.

Here's a close up of the 'London Stripe' curtains, which are perfect for the casual beach cottage look that I was going for. Nubby linen and pale stripes ceiling to floor disguise the small cottage windows.
Now I'm searching for a vintage French clock (bigger) to replace the one here or a Mora clock for the corner where the tree is. I'm open for suggestions...
Well, it's always a work in progress and that's the fun of it. Thanks for visiting.

ReplyDeleteI love it all Roberta, it's so soothing. I have to tell you I'm thrilled to see a TV and how well it works within the room. We've got a large one too and it's good to see there's still chic style with one in the room. Personally, I can't be without my Mystery and Brothers and Sisters and will never give mine up. You've given me much hope sweetie! Have a great week. Loving my Jeanne d'Arc Living mag here.

PS... Sorry I got carried away, love the slipcover too!
ReplyDeleteHi Roberta
ReplyDeleteWEll I love your before and your after... both have a soothing relaxing atmosphere... I do agree though that the ikea covers are fabulous and a burst of colour here and there really creates some dimension.. and coziness..
So about that big french clock... I have one that has literally jumped off the wall a number of times.. each time producing a little more damage to the poor suicidal clock... I've dismantled it now and will think of something to make from it...
Have a great week... xx Julie
It looks fresh and beautiful! I've read about those slipcovers on a few blogs - I guess they are discontinuing that style? Too bad, but a great deal for you!
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. The 'after' picture is divine. LOVE the curtains (where?) and the new slipcovers. And to think you used to be anti-ikea! The window/corner height piece works perfectly! I agree about the clock. Something heavier and more authentic antique, and perhaps darker. I'm sure you'll find just the right piece. Another wonderful makeover.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments Girls. I've always really, really disliked my living room because of the big black tv but I've recently learned to embrace and work around it! Heck, I've even placed an orchid next to it! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe slipcovers are gorgeous and the tall window frame in the corner was really a score! Your room is just lovely. ~Sue~
ReplyDeleteIt looks so awesome and cottagey. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteYour house is so cute in the snow there!!!
Roberta, the room looks divine!! I cant see the pattern on the sofa that well, but sounds like I have the same pattern on a chair I bought last year. I purchased it at Jordans. I love the beige with the white flowers. are those Ikea sofas??? Id love to know how comfy they are as Im yet to visit a store..

Actually, I like both before and after. I do think that living in the NE in winter, the pop of color adds a nice coziness. You have of blowing snow up there I can see. I am originally from Albany, NY so I know what I am missing, lol. What a deal on the slipcovers!
ReplyDeleteYou've given me much hope sweetie! Have a great week.
